Quintetto Inflagranti’s solid foundation is laid down by Karl Schimke’s tuba. Since 1996, Karl has been playing tuba and cimbasso for the Symphony Orchestra in St.Gallen, playing in the Brass Quintett St.Gallen, and as a soloist.

 Since 2008, Karl has been active as «Communicator» for the St.Galler Orchestra.  In this position, he has been responsible for creating and moderating over 24 original concert programs for young listeners. In 2011, he gained his Masters in Advanced Studies in Music Education from the Zurich Hochschule der Künste.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts (USA), Karl started to play the tuba at age 14, while growing up in California. His studies lead him to Rex Martin at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and Simon Styles at the Musikhochschule Zurich.

 

Karl was elected into the St.Gallen City Parliament in 2017. He enjoys spending his free time with his wife and two daughters. He loves cooking, riding his bike, and working in the garden.
